MEITAL 12th Conference 2014 Call for Papers 

The 12th annual MEITAL conference on New Teaching and Learning Technologies in Higher Education: Trends and Developments will be held at the Levinsky College of Education, on Wednesday, July 2nd 2014. The annual conference takes place annually in one of the academic institutes that are members of MEITAL, and aims to outline achievements and challenges in implementing learning technologies in higher education as well as future developments and trends.

Faculty members, graduate students and anyone interested in online academic teaching within higher education institutions as well as education organization and R&D companies are welcome to apply for the 2014 MEITAL conference.


The Conference Objectives

  • Presenting current trends and developments in online academic pedagogy, both in Israel and worldwide, as a result of using new information and communication technologies (ICT)
  • Creating a common ground for future collaborations in online pedagogy research and for development at various education systems
  • Presenting a critical assessment of the new learning technologies used by students, faculty and the academia at large.

             1.      Innovations, challenges and successes in online pedagogy (best practices)

  1. OER Repositories and their implementation in teaching and learning
  2. New strategies and technologies for implementing in teaching and learning
  3. Learning processes in technology-saturated environments
  4. Privacy and other ethical issues concerning the use of technology
  5. Open online academic courses and their future influence (MOOCs)
  6. Gaming and games in academia
  7.  Incorporating social networks into the learning process and their effects
  8. Cultural, pedagogical, and organizational changes in the perception of online teaching within higher education systems.
  9. Assistive technology and technology usage among students with special needs.
  10. Research report that summarizes MEITAL funded projects products 

Presentation Types

The conference will present keynote presentations, thematic anchored lectures presented by top researchers, chaired lectures, posters and presentations and workshops conducted prior to the conference (will be open for early registration)

Call for Papers

The program committee invites you to submit papers to be presented at the conference in one of the options listed below:

             a.      Lecture (15 minutes + 5 minutes for Q&A)

  1. Posters and presentations
    For presenting initial results in online teaching and learning research or for initiative regarding integrating online teaching in academic systems, newly developed tools, etc.. The posters and presentation are an integral part of the conference plan.
  2. Workshops
    The workshops will be held prior to and during the conference, where the participants can experience new applications, new teaching approaches  etc.. We would appreciate workshops proposals that focus on pedagogy innovations and new technologies.

Publishing proposals and presentation

All proposals presented in the conference will be published in the conference website.


Sloan Consortium Collaboration

Some presentations that will be selected by the program committee will be presented with the opportunity to submit a paper in English for the JALNJournal of Asynchronous Learning Networks. This opportunity is a part of the collaboration between MEITAL and Sloan-C.

Guidelines for English abstracts will be sent to the elected proposals.
