Our project is designed specifically for advanced courses in mathematics. The issue is one of testing: most E-learning systems limit the instructors' choices for testing either to multiple-choice questions or questions that have a numerical answer. Our system offers the additional option of receiving and grading symbolic answers, i.e., answers that include constants, variables, functions, operators, inequalities, etc. The system evaluates and grades such answers intelligently, and is therefore suitable for use in more advanced science courses.
Our system is very modular and flexible, and combines powerful, time-tested open-source tools which allow easy authoring and practice:
1. A general-purpose Wiki system that is fully multi-lingual with specific support for bi-directional text.
2. The system scientific authoring, including:
a. Authoring of formulae, equations and scientific expressions via inlined LaTeX code, similar to what is done in the MediaWiki (Wikipedia) project, but far more powerful and flexible.
b. Authoring of graphs and plots via inlining of GNU Plot code.
c. Authoring of general graphics via inlining of Encapsulated PostScript.
In addition to authoring tools, the system makes use of one of the most powerful symbolic mathematics systems available today, in order to evaluate student answers. This system (Maxima) recognizes any mathematically-equivalent answers.
Our site contains links to video lectures, lecture notes of theoretical materials, a list of formulas and other "Advanced Analysis" course materials.
There are more than 600 exercises divided into 8 categories and subsequent subsections.
Each question is equipped with the full solution, a symbolic answer and a hint.
All questions are classified according to 4 levels of difficulty.
Symbolic syntax help page and equation editor supported by Java are designed.
Forum is a tool for communicating and interchanging on the site.
