About MEITAL

MEITAL – The Inter-University Center for E-learning (IUCEL) is an inter-institutional center of excellence that promotes the use of learning technologies in higher education in Israel. MEITAL’s members include 20 academic colleges as well as Israel’s eight universities.

Pedagogic needs, technological development and accessibility of digital information make the field of online learning a complex and dynamic field that is constantly undergoing change and progress. Among other things, MEITAL serves as the central inter-institutional forum for the joint promotion of online learning in higher education, in cooperation with national institutions. Alongside this, MEITAL is an active member of international forums and plays an active role in global partnerships and consortia in the field. Being a leader and active participant in developments in innovations and trends in online education, accessibility, legal aspects of digital learning, support, training and research have had a significant positive impact on the advancement of the use of e-learning technologies in higher education.

MEITAL leads this active community in a range of activities, including working groups, round tables on pedagogic and operational areas, examining new learning technologies, and offering key infrastructure services to institutions. In addition, MEITAL makes available a range of learning technologies and technological tools at consortium prices.

MEITAL strives to work together to improve the connection between teaching, learning and technology, bringing together the leading experts in higher education, with the goal of improving and enabling quality technological academic instruction.

MEITAL’s Mission and Activities

The goal of MEITAL is to assist institutions of higher learning – universities and academic colleges – in promoting the use of learning technologies. To achieve this goal, MEITAL operations focus on three primary areas:

Activities

MEITAL coordinates and leads a variety of activities in Israel and abroad that support institutions and integrate the following:

  • Seminars and meetings on innovative and relevant topics
  • Professional online learning workshops
  • Annual MEITAL national conference on e-learning
  • MEITAL Research Fund encouraging original research in learning technologies
  • Inter-institutional knowledge centers

Community

The MEITAL community is made up of representatives from member institutions of higher learning. The community works together to promote e-learning through cooperation and exchange of information, and participation in various frameworks for promoting inter-institutional projects. This supportive, living breathing community is extremely active, with working groups and forums to enrich learning and proactive information sharing between members and other activities such as:

  • Establishing working groups on selected issues
  • Coordinating and making accessible topics related to e-learning, such as open calls, events and conferences
  • Leading activities to enrich the community
  • Providing technical support and assistance to member institutions

Learning Technologies

MEITAL is a national center of excellence in the field of learning technologies, focusing on locating new learning technologies and making them accessible to member institutions. In addition, MEITAL negotiates consortium agreements and helps members deploy technologies, as well as offering support.

  • Coordinates technological learning tools with up-to-date catalogue management and support for leading tools
  • Offers a basket of technologies are reduced consortium prices
  • Acts as a knowledge center for technology and innovation in the world of e-learning, including locating and presenting new tools and making publications and research available in the field and more.
